Control joints

Our control joints are designed to prevent the malfunctions (cracks, de-bonding) that systematically occur when flooring systems are installed in large areas without joints. They are used with all types of industrial or commercial floorings. These include warehouses, car parks, shopping centers and other large commercial properties.

When choosing a control joint for your next construction project, you need to consider the project’s requirements and the material the joint is made from. These factors will determine the type of control joint that will suit your situation and how long it will last.

What are Control Joints?

Control Joint Materials

Control joints come in a variety of materials, each of which has its benefits and can be useful for a range of projects.

Some of the most common control joint materials are:

  • PVC Control Joints: PVC is a versatile and durable material for control joints and can be used in a variety of applications. PVC control joints are slightly more flexible than metal control joints and are usually lighter.
  • Metal Control Joints: Metal, including aluminium, steel and brass can be used to make control joints that are also highly durable. A metal control joint usually lasts longer than a PVC one before it starts to show signs of wear.

When choosing the material for your control joints, you should consider longevity and practicality as well as price. While a metal control joint will usually cost more than a PVC one, metal control joints will often last for many years, so they are cheaper in the long run.

Control Joint Types

As well as various materials, there are also many different types of control joints on the market that you can choose from.

Some of the most common types of control joints are:

  • Concrete Control Joints: Concrete control joints are one of the most common types of control joints and are used in concrete floors to prevent cracking. Concrete expands and shrinks at different temperatures, so concrete control joints are essential to reduce the chances of cracks and splits occurring.
  • Tile Dividers: Tile dividers are both decorative and functional, as they are visible and can be used to provide protection for the edges of square or rectangular tiles.

The type of control joint that you choose will depend on the type of flooring material you are using and the size of your project.
